So the reason I started this journey is not just because the new “chic” in thing to do is try to be “organic”  I’ve been working with an organic organization for over 5 years and it really has taught me the value of doing what’s right…  Since my degree is in Environmental Biology I have to think of not only my children and my community – I need to think if the environment… I have never used pesticides on my garden before but I’ve also never used any organic techniques to grow anything either… I’m not sure why exactly because I know several… so this is my year.  I read a great blog post on Tiny Farm Blog about making water in the winter… how on earth did I not think of this… what a great way to reuse earth’s natural resource.  Although right now I dont’ have a hoop house so I don’t need that much water in the winter – I just thought it was worth it to share with others…

Product of note:  Since I’m working with The Happy Gardener – I’ve noticed that they have a great Rain Barrel Kit for connecting a hose to a rain barrel (which is on my wish list now because I know I’ll need one come summer).  Check it out and if you’d like to purchase one – Email me!

It’s March – what should I be doing in my garden? March 12, 2008

I think the best thing for me to do first is to let you all know that I’m in Upstate NY (heaven help me!) Right now I’m staring out the window at a good 4 inches of snow… is there anything I should be doing now to get ready for the gardening season?

YES! Start getting your seedlings planted so they are ready to go in after the last frost – which in my case feels like it won’t be for another 2 months but I’m praying for something sooner…

I’m doing everything Organic this year from lawn care to salad dressing… wish me luck!

I’ll have to take some pictures this weekend – I’m going to go get some organic potting mix for veggies along with some organic veggie seeds.

Well, I guess I’ll try once again to get this squared away in my mind by writing it down on a blog – I’m a 35 year old wife and mother of 2.  I work in the agricultural field with organic farmers throughout the Northeast US – mainly in seed processing but also with participatory plant breeding (fancy way of saying that farmers help with the plant breeding).  I’m just getting started with The Happy Gardener, an organic gardening and lawn care product company which uses the  network marketing strategy to widen sales.  If anyone is interested, please let me know – I’d be happy to help out anyway I can.

I’ve been working with organic gardeners for a bit over 5 years and have learned so much about the gardening and marketing aspect of the culture. I’m looking forward in sharing my knowledge and The Happy Gardener Products with you.
